In today’s broader Energy Sector, proponents need to be well planned and all efforts need to be done to identify risks to programs well upfront so appropriate mitigation can take place. Western Canada is blessed with so many natural resources and this often results in competition over the same tracts of land. Having the ability to leverage the skillsets of this team will help realize your project needs while being a trusted advisor to ensure you gain broader community acceptance.
Indigenous Relations
Bridging interests between proponents and communities. Discovering the true cornerstones of the community and supporting real capacity building.
We ensure that there is regular dialogue and a genuine effort to seek understanding. We value pre-engagement with a genuine desire to understand how the proposed projects will impact their way of life and how to explore mitigation early on.
True engagement occurs over the life of a project and having consistency in approach is paramount to build strong partnerships with community and the long-term project success.
Government Relations
The Cornerstone team has extensive background in working with various levels of government: local, regional and provincial. We engage with government bodies with the aim of forming strategic communication and understanding the needs of the communities they represent and look for threads to form strong partnerships.
Firsthand experience of bridging communication between parties using conflict leadership/interest-based mediation. This ensures that all parties feel seen, heard and understood.
Land Negotiations
We have extensive experience in securing interests in all supporting all types of developments and across multiple jurisdictions. Projects have varied from Coalbed Methane, Insitu & Mining Oilsands, Thermal, Montney (Liquids & Natural Gas) and true exploration projects in the NWT.
Many of these projects required thorough planning and supporting multi-disciplinary teams and being the face of the projects with both the stakeholder community as well as the provincial regulator.
Our goal is to ensure fair compensation is negotiated and that the true interests and concerns are addressed and/or mitigated by the proponent
Stakeholder Consultation
Continuous engagement with the local community and collaboration with Government partners is key to local support. Cornerstone can support dialogue with local communities and municipal districts in the effort to be a partner in the community.
This type of engagement requires meeting people in-person to promote understanding of the interests of both parties and ensuring that concerns could be mitigated. Each communities’ interests are unique and building understanding of those priorities is key to establishing partnerships.
Information Session Facilitation
Conducting Information Sessions or historical “Open Houses” is paramount not only to meet Public Consultation and Engagement requirements that are outlined in regulation, but to truly hear the concerns or questions of the public. These sessions can be extremely beneficial to garnering support from your neighbours and to foster open communication. Careful planning and consideration to determine what success would look like and determining the appropriate individuals to be present and how to plan a successful event is something we have had a lot of experience in and can support your planning.
